Mjejane is a private game reserve on the southern border of Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga, South Africa. It's approximately 4–5 hours from Johannesburg and 45 minutes from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA).
How do I get to Mjejane?
Head east on the N4 towards Komatipoort/Maputo, passing through Nelspruit and Malelane. Continue past Hectorspruit for approximately 2.5km and look for the Mjejane Game Reserve gate on your left.
Which Kruger gate is closest to Mjejane?
Malelane Gate is the closest, approximately 20km from the reserve. Crocodile Bridge Gate is also nearby. Both gates provide easy access for Kruger day trips.
What are the Mjejane gate times?
The Mjejane gate is open from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Do I need to register before arrival?
Yes. A gate access registration form will be sent to you after booking confirmation. Please ensure all guests complete the registration form and indemnity before arrival.
What if I have a rental car and don't have the registration number yet?
If you're arriving in a rental car or transfer vehicle, you can enter N/A for the vehicle registration number on the gate access form.
- All entering MGR must adhere to security protocol.
- The MGR Gate Hours are from 5:00 – 22:00.
- Please note the following speed limits:
- 40km/h on main access roads
- 20km/h in development zones
- No unauthorized persons or vehicles on game drive roads
- No off-road driving is allowed
- Operating any vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs are prohibited
- No walking, jogging or cycling on the game reserve
- No Jogging or cycling is allowed in the development nodes
- No walking after dark inside development nodes
- No motorbikes and quad bikes are allowed on the Reserve
- Hunting of animals and birds is strictly prohibited
- Disturbing or removal of animal remains such as bones, horns etc is prohibited
- Dumping and littering of waste material are prohibited
- No pets or domestic animals are allowed on MGR
- The collection of wood, stones or flora on MGR is prohibited
- Feeding or trapping of animals and birds is prohibited
- The making of fires is only allowed in designated braai places and fires must be put out before you retire to bed.
- The lighting or letting off of fireworks is prohibited
- Making excessive noise of any kind (music, shouting etc.) will not be tolerated. Please respect all other residents / guests at MGR.
- Shining spotlights on neighbouring properties or blinding animals with white spotlights or laser lights is prohibited.
- Only Infra-red filtered Spotlights are allowed.

- Over-occupation of allocated bed nights at Private Lodges or Shareblock Units is not allowed.
What is the SUIC levy?
The SUIC levy is R60 per person per night for river-facing lodges and R30 per person per night for reserve-facing lodges. Payable at the gate upon arrival. Card only.
What is the road levy?
R350 per vehicle, valid for 7 days. Payable at the gate upon arrival. Card only — no cash.
Is there a breakage deposit?
Yes, most lodges require a refundable breakage deposit. The amount varies from lodge to lodge and is detailed in your booking confirmation. The deposit is refunded after a post-checkout inspection.
Are game drives included in the rate?
This varies from lodge to lodge. Some lodges include game drives in their nightly rate, while others offer them as an optional extra. Check your specific lodge details.
How much do game drives cost?
Game drive prices vary from lodge to lodge. Your lodge will provide specific pricing and booking details.
Can I self-drive in Mjejane?
No, only official game vehicles with registered guides may conduct game drives in Mjejane Game Reserve.
Can I do a self-drive day trip to Kruger?

What time is check-in and check-out?

Are the lodges self-catering?
Yes, all Mjejane lodges are self-catering with fully equipped kitchens. There are no restaurants on the reserve, so plan your meals and groceries in advance.
Can I pre-order groceries?

Yes, all lodges have WiFi. Although mostly good, it is still a rural area and you might experience occasional dips in connectivity.
Do lodges have backup power?
Most lodges have backup power in the form of generators or solar systems. During power outages, some high-energy appliances may not function on backup power. Check your specific lodge details.
Can I braai at the lodge?
Yes, most lodges have braai (BBQ) facilities. Firewood availability varies — some lodges provide it, others require you to bring your own. Open fires outside of designated braai areas are strictly prohibited.
Is Mjejane a malaria area?
Mjejane is rated as a moderate malaria risk area. Consult your doctor about antimalarial prophylaxis before travelling. Use insect repellent (we recommend Peaceful Sleep or Tabard), especially in the evening, and wear long sleeves and trousers after sunset.
Is Mjejane family-friendly?
Absolutely! Mjejane is a wonderful destination for families. Many lodges have pools, garden areas, and game drive options suitable for children. Some lodges also have cots available on request.
